Chewy Molasses Spice Cookies

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup butter, room temperature

  • 1/2 cup shortening, room temperature

  • 1 cup packed brown sugar

  • 1/3 cup molasses

  • 1 egg

  • 2 1/4 cups flour

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 2 tsp baking soda

  • 1/4 tsp ground allspice

  • 1/2 tsp ground cloves

  • 1 tsp ground ginger

  • 2 tsp cinnamon

  • 1 cup white sugar (for rolling cookie dough in)

Chewy cookies that pack a spicy punch!

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 375°F.
  • With a mixer cream the butter, shortening, and brown sugar. Add molasses and egg to creamed butter and sugar. Mix until light and fluffy.
  • In another bowl sift together flour, salt, baking soda, allspice, cloves, ginger, and cinnamon.
  • Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients and mix until just combined.
  • Take teaspoons of dough and roll in white sugar and in the palm of your hand to make little balls. Place on an ungreased cookie sheet.
  • Bake until just firm for 10 to15 minutes; do not over-bake. They should be browned but look underdone when removed from oven. They will firm up when cooled. For a crisp cookie, cook longer.
