This medication is used to treat a certain mental/mood disorder (schizophrenia). Paliperidone belongs to a class of drugs known as atypical antipsychotics. It works by helping to restore the balance of certain natural substances in the brain.

This long-acting form of paliperidone is used only after you have received treatment with the form that is injected once a month for at least 4 months.

How to Use This Medication

Read the Patient Information Leaflet if available from your pharmacist before you start using paliperidone and each time you get a refill. If you have any questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

This medication is given by injection into a muscle (upper arm or buttocks) by a health care professional. The injections are given as directed by your doctor, usually once every 3 months. The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment.

Use this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, mark your calendar when you need to receive the medication. Keep using this medication even if you feel well. Do not stop using this medication without consulting your doctor.

Tell your doctor if your condition does not improve or if it worsens.
